SAD NEWS HIT NPP AND PARLIAMENT AS MP DEAD

Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, Hon. Philip Atta Basoah has passed away at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital at the age of 53. While details surrounding his passing are not yet disclose, Hon. Basoah is reported to have died last night.

He was first elected as a member of Parliament in 2017 after emerging victorious in the 2016 general elections in the Kumawu constituency. Prior to his time in Parliament, he had served as the Chief Executive for the Sekyere East District from June 2005 to January 2009 and had also been a Lecturer at the Agogo State College.

In the 2016 general elections, Hon. Basoah won the parliamentary seat with 21,794 votes, representing 78.2% of the total votes cast on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. In the year 2020 general elections, he retained his seat, winning with 14,960 votes, representing 51.1% of the total votes cast.

The passing of Hon. Basoah has been met with sadness and condolences from his constituents and colleagues in Parliament. The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin, expressed his condolences, stating that Hon. Basoah’s death was “a great loss to the House and the nation at large.”

The Kumawu Constituency is located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and is known for its rich cultural heritage, as well as its agricultural production. The constituency has a population of approximately 90,000 people and is home to a number of communities, including Kumawu, Dwenti, and Bodomase.

Hon. Basoah’s passing is a great loss to his family, constituents, and the nation at large. The people of Kumawu and the Ashanti Region will undoubtedly mourn the loss of a dedicated and committed public servant who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those he served.
